Life Coaching / What Is Stress Management?
life coaching / packages / stress management / Mid Life Crisis

Stress is frequently described as America’s number one killer. Many surveys have it as a contributing factor in over 80% of doctors’ appointments.

We all need a certain amount of stress in our lives, it gives us that edge to perform when we need to, but too much can have a severely detrimental effect.

Long term stress contributes to higher blood pressure, the lowering of the immune system, fatigue, headaches, irritability, irritable bowel syndrome, poor sleep patterns, mental health issues and a whole host of other problems.

What Is Stress Management?

In its traditional form, Stress Management is a broad term that encompasses education and training in the nature of stress. It generally teaches and promotes skills and practices such as improved breathing techniques, relaxation, meditation, and visualization to help increase body awareness and give back control of physiological functions.

I prefer to use a combination of NLP, hypnotherapy and more traditional methods, depending on the individual circumstances. More importantly, it is necessary to look at and seriously reduce or eradicate the cause of stress, rather than simply treat the symptoms.

Dealing With Stress

People are often unaware of why they feel stressed and they frequently believe that this is just ‘normal’ and ‘the way it is’. By looking at the underlying cause we can get a better understanding of our stress and help the body cope with it. We can make sure that we use stress to help us rather than allowing it to dominate our lives.

The one certainty is that you do not have to accept a life full of stress. However, it may be necessary to re-evaluate your life and priorities if you are serious about keeping stress to an acceptable level that helps you perform when necessary without impinging on your well being and enjoyment of life.
Be well.
